PLAYER
EVALUATION
One of the key principles to the success of AYSO soccer is balanced teams. There are many
ways of achieving balance, but none of them will work if the rating system is not applied consistently
by all of the coaches. The success of our balancing system rest firmly in your hands. Please follow
these instructions carefully.
ü Rate all players who have been on your team during ANY part of the season.
ü
Evaluate your players in comparison to all of
the players playing in your division.
Your division is made up of players of at least two different birth years. Do not
rate players differently according to birth year. The balancing system will account
for that.
ü
The attached Player Evaluation Form is to be
used for rating your players.
There are spaces for each player’s name (full name please), birth year
(from registration forms) and rating.
ü
Ratings can vary from 1-5: 1 = poorly skilled, 3
= average, 5 = very skilled.
To apply these ratings, it is suggested that you identify the player on you
team,
who best represents the average skill level of you entire division. Rate that player
as a 3. Next compare your other players
to your average player and rate them
accordingly. Some will be the same, a
little better, much better, worse and so on.
Every team will have some players above average and some below. The most
successful teams will probably have more players above average and the least
successful teams will probably have more below.
Now add up the total points
and compare to the guideline below.
ü
The following guideline should be used to
calculate a target score when rating
your players.
o (# of players rated) x 3 + (wins – losses) / 4 = Total Rating Points
o Example: Team # 123 Record Spring - 3 / 4 / 1
U10 Boys Fall - 3 / 6 / 0
o 12 Players + 2 drop/add
o (12 + 2) x 3 + (-5 / 4) = 40.75 = 41 (target score)
ü
Ratings can become a very sensitive subject with
players and parents. As such,
you should treat this information as confidential and discuss ratings only with
coaches
and appropriate region staff members.
ü
Please take one more look at your ratings. Do your ratings reflect the team you coached
this year? If not, you should
re-evaluate your players accordingly.
Please
complete this form and bring it to Equipment Turn-in Night.
